Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in television, film and the theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer from her role on the Showtime series Soul Food. When she got married, she changed her name to Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an interest in acting from childhood and received the Best Actress award in the Maryland high school competition. In addition to her work in the theater as well as with 'The Washington Ballet Company.' She received a degree in Acting from New York University. Contractor, who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai when he was 7years old, traveled all over the world and experienced various cultures while growing up. She was a boarding student in London from seven to nine, after which her family relocated towards Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her youth and early adulthood. Contractor studied and became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school in which she studied not only dance, but also theatre. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting seriously at age of 16 following almost 10 years of dancing. Upon graduating from high school she received a full-time grant to attend the University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theater and a dual major in psychology and sociology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year, she was awarded the leading role. After 92 performances, she received glowing reviews. This play was named one of the most successful productions in Canada by the critics. The actress accepted an invitation to enroll in Stratford's conservatory. This is a course where only four men and eight women can take the 20-week crash course of classical theater. The actor's involvement in the upcoming season's production was confirmed. She got the part of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
